Converting buildings to a new central plant chilled water system
Santa Monica College (SMC) needed to connect five campus building utilities to a new chilled water central plant to increase their efficiency. They wanted new power monitoring and DDC controls systems to connect to the campus network interface. They also needed construction support and phased construction for the project to minimize class disruptions; documentation for utilities incentives and rebates; and commissioning services for MEP systems at the five campus buildings. That’s a lot of distinct types of work but we’re one of the few firms able to provide all those services. We helped SMC with everything they needed and made sure the project met their objectives.
We connected the Library, Science, Business, North and South HSS to the new chilled water plant. Our team outfitted them with new equipment and DDC controls to match campus standards and provide seamless integration with the new plant. We also commissioned the building’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, which were part of the chilled water upgrade and conducted commissioning services during the projects construction phase. This ensured Cx activities were incorporated into the master schedule so proper testing procedures were followed and to meet the college’s efficiency objectives through verified functional performance.
