Project Overview
Golden West College's new, three-story Math and Science building signals a new era of STEM education. The project broke ground in May 2017 and when complete, it will contain lecture spaces, wet and dry laboratories, common areas and a STEM Center to give Golden West students the best possible math and science education. We're the MEP and fire protection partner in the design-build team along with HMC Architects and Sundt Construction. The facility was designed to qualify for a LEED Silver certification and is estimated to be finished in 2019.

Solution
Designing for LEED Silver can be challenging, but design-build teams are well positioned to resolve difficulties as designers and contractors can work together to design and construct the project to qualify for LEED. Designing the 18 different lab spaces also presented challenges. These labs will service geology, biology, microbiology, zoology, anatomy, physiology, ecology, botany, marine life, physics, chemistry and organic chemistry students and subtle differences in design were often required.
