Beckman Laser Institute Air Handler Replacement
New AHUs prime the Beckman Laser Institute for a planned future lab expansion
P2S served as the prime consultant for this project that delivered MEP, structural and architectural design for the critical replacement of AHUs 1, 2, and 3 at UCI's Beckman Laser Institute. The replacement included load calculations, evaluation of electrical power distribution, roof structure and existing equipment, as well as construction support.
Our team provided three custom air handling units with high-performance chilled water coils and fans. We selected the air handler chilled water coils for eventual conversion to 100% outside air to provide infrastructure for future lab expansions within the building. We coordinated new custom steel air handling unit roof curbs to accommodate existing rooftop conditions and patched the roofing and flashing to accommodate the new AHU curbs. This project also included the demolition of abandoned equipment to clean up the roof area and new sheet metal caps on the existing equipment pads and roof walk pads to enhance the reliability of the existing roof system. A building chilled water pumping station controls upgrade to convert from constant-volume to variable-volume operation was the final touch of this project.
