We designed the MEP systems for this new construction, taking care to meet the extra demands associated with laboratory and support spaces. The primary research area is sectioned off from the area that are publicly accessible, essentially dividing the building into two zones. Most of the building is cooled by a rooftop air-cooled chiller and heated by a single hot water boiler. An outside air rooftop air handling unit (AHU) serves the wet labs while a separate rooftop AHU serves the offices and conference rooms. The building systems include compressed air piping distribution, vacuum piping distribution, acid waste clarifier, and low-pressure gas system. Electricity is supplied by a 5kv substation and the facility is equipped with electronic meters and surge protection devices. We also designed lighting for the lobby, first-floor conference room, and coworking space.
