  • Project Overview

Cal State Monterey Bay’s new 70,000 SF Otter Student Union will replace a parking lot next to the current Student Center at the corner of Inter Garrison and 5th Avenue. The $40 million building aims to be the new heart of the seaside campus and it will contain a cross-cultural center, fluid activity spaces, group study rooms, lounges, meditation room, dining, bookstore, coffee shop and anything else a student may need. The student government will move into new administrative and support spaces once the facility opens. The multi-story building was designed and constructed to meet LEED Silver certification. The project broke ground in April 2018 and was completed in the Spring of 2020. LEED Silver certification was officially achieved in April 2023.
