lab design experts with a global reach & extensive design-build experience

P2S Advantages

Full Service Means Less Hassle

We offer full MEPT engineering services, reducing the number of sub-consultants that architects need for large-scale laboratory facility projects. We make the architect’s life easier by being a one-stop-shop for MEPT systems, which are the major internal and external building coordination items.

Optimum Air Quality and Efficiency

We’re experts at delivering engineered laboratory exhaust system designs that are informed and validated by wind tunnel analysis. Simply put, we deliver better air quality and energy efficiency.

Local Lab Experts with a Global Reach & Versed in Design-Build

Our engineers contribute their laboratory facilities experience to the global engineering society. Our staff are voting members of ASHRAE technical committees and contribute to the ASHRAE Laboratories Design Guide.

Our lab team has extensive design-build experience. We have staff formerly from design-build contracting firms who understand how facilities are built and the cost and operational impact of engineering design decisions.

UCI benefits from innovative research lab HVAC design

Location:

Irvine, CA

Size:

115,000 SF

Project Overview

The Medical Sciences Buildings B & D are biological and medical research labs at the UCI School of Medicine. Laboratory facilities like these have intensive ventilation needs which are required to safeguard occupant health and safety. Designing mechanical systems for these facilities carries unique challenges, but our lab design team is more than up to the task. They designed replacement HVAC systems for Medical Sciences B & D, six-story buildings with a combined 115,000 SF of space. The new HVAC systems ensures proper ventilation, filtration, humidity control and guarantee exceptional indoor air quality.

Solution

UCI needed the research at these lab buildings to continue uninterrupted during construction, so we designed the project in phases that allowed the labs to remain fully operational throughout the design and construction process. Besides MEP design services, we also provided architectural consulting, structural engineering, and wind engineering services for these design-build projects, projects our team won through multiple design-build competitions. Each time, our team won the competitions in anonymous blind submittals due to our exceptional technical scores. Our design features a unique “cluster” lab exhaust system that enhances the air quality of the lab facility and promotes energy efficiency.
