The Crafton Hills College Solar Upgrade

Energizing Education: A Visionary Venture Begins

P2S upgraded Crafton Hills College's solar capabilities with a cutting-edge Solar PV and Energy Storage System, significantly modernizing infrastructure and reducing costs as part of the college's Net Zero Energy Master Plan.

In March 2021, P2S embarked on an ambitious project with the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) at Crafton Hills College, aimed at upgrading their solar energy capabilities. This project, which spanned until November 2024, involved comprehensive electrical engineering services, the design of a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) farm, an Energy Storage System (ESS), and the groundwork for future microgrid implementation.

Overcoming Obstacles for a Greener Tomorrow

Crafton Hills College sought to enhance energy production and achieve a Net Zero energy footprint, replacing their outdated solar farm with a modern, efficient system as part of the broader Net Zero Energy Master Plan developed by P2S. The college faced significant challenges in integrating the new solar farm with the existing infrastructure to minimize costs related to new infrastructure and utility upgrades.

The primary goal was to implement a cutting-edge solar farm equipped with Solar PV and Energy Storage Systems, with secondary objectives including advancing the college's sustainability goals, decreasing dependency on the external electrical grid, and reducing energy costs. The approach included leveraging advanced computer software to optimize system sizing and perform life cycle cost analyses, ensuring maximum efficiency and return on investment.

Steering Crafton Hills to New Heights

Led by Aravind Batra, Principal, and managed by Mohammad Wasif, PM/Electrical Engineer, the team developed a detailed project plan that addressed utility interconnection requirements, optimized system sizing based on ROI and payback periods, and coordinated closely with utility providers to integrate the new systems with existing setups.

A Beacon of Savings and Sustainability
The innovative integration of the new solar farm with the existing infrastructure dramatically cut initial capital costs, reducing the break-even time by 40% compared to typical new builds. This strategic design will generate significant savings over the system's lifecycle. The client expressed profound appreciation for the leadership and expertise provided by Mohammad.

Setting a Benchmark in Energy Management
The successful completion of the Solar PV and Energy Storage System at Crafton Hills College stands as a testament to P2S’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation, significantly advancing the SBCCD's sustainability goals and setting a benchmark in educational sector energy management.
