Project Overview
The Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC) Library and Learning Resource Center (LLRC) is a triumph of efficient design. Efficiency was what the Wilmington based college was after for its new facility and we delivered a design to meet LEED Gold certification by using a mix of technology and sustainable strategies. The LLRC now acts as the college's hub for instructional support and includes: an open-access computer lab for students, conference rooms, offices, microfiche archives and tutoring spaces for reading, writing and math.

Solution
We met LAHC’s goals and delivered a building that is 20% more efficient than standard Title 24, Part 6 requirements, saving 100-tons of carbon emissions annually. To maximize efficiency and promote sustainability, we used a variety of design elements like: under-floor air distribution for improved ventilation efficiency and indoor air quality; energy efficient roofing with PV system; daylighting with sun controlled windows; occupancy sensing light fixtures with automatic dimming and low-flow water fixtures and waterless urinals. We maximized resource savings, minimized energy use and created an inviting and comfortable multi-functional space for LAHC students.
